Why Playing the Lottery Is a Man’s Thing

(This is a sponsored post, written by a company that requested to use my platform for exposure).

These days, one must take care not to discriminate by gender. Men and women were created equal after all and it would not be politically correct to suggest otherwise. Therefore it may come as a surprise that when it comes to online gaming, there is a distinct difference in behaviour between the sexes. And it may be even more surprising to learn that men play the lottery more than women!

Why Playing the Lottery Is a Man’s Thing

How do we know this to be true?

Vision Critical, the provider of a cloud-based customer intelligence platform, published a study in 2013 that presented interesting facts about lottery players’ behaviour in the United States. In its “Snapshot of Today’s Lottery Player”, Vision Critical determined that men are more likely to play the lottery than women. According to the study:

** 55 percent of men were likely to play the lottery compared to 42 percent of women.

** 18 percent of the men surveyed said that they were likely to purchase their lottery tickets on the Internet, versus only 12 percent of the women interviewed for the study. Overall, most consumers stated that they prefer to buy lottery tickets in person and not online, the study found.

But, should this really come as a surprise?

The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation in Australia determined that “men were significantly more likely than women to gamble for social reasons or for general entertainment, while women were more likely to gamble for charity or because gambling relieved stress, loneliness and boredom.”

We can see these differences when we consider online gaming habits. Men seem to be drawn to gambling sites that offer sports betting and poker, while online bingo appears to be a woman’s game.

Are these findings true all the time?

We are all aware that the odds of winning a lottery jackpot are very small, yet many of us tend to forget the odds and take a chance at winning a life-changing prize. There is no sure fire way to guarantee success in lottery play, although some players believe that they will have luck if they play their lucky numbers. Some will try to emulate the playing habits of National Lottery winners, while others will learn everything you need to know about EuroMillions before they buy their tickets.

Anything to give one a heads up is worth a try!

When the American Powerball lottery jackpot reached a record-breaking $1.586 billion prize in January 2016, ticket sales went through the roof. Men and women, rich and poor, young and old – everyone wanted to play for that enormous prize.

No matter what statistics and studies suggest, when lottery jackpots are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, we all rush to purchase our tickets. This next draw, we believe, is bound to be the one that makes our dreams come true, and those dreams are shared by men and women alike.

  1. Interesting, these data I did not know.
But I noticed from the articles I’ve written about winners and surveys that I do about, really the majority are men.
    You’re absolutely right.
